I’ve written future letters in my past for many different reasons.

Sometimes it was for the end of a project that I was working on and I’d talk about how excellent I did. Sometimes it was with matters of the heart when I was a completely emo girl.

I’ve also taken up the habit of trying to do this with my business. I haven’t done it every year, but it has always been a really good reminder for what I would like to accomplish year after year. In light of getting my passport at the end of last week and knowing that the wheels are officially turning now, I thought this would be a good time to write a letter to myself for a year from today.

If you’ve never done it, or would like to participate you can use a site like futureme.org and have them email you a copy of your letter. It was incredibly helpful when I did it.

Here are some areas I plan on addressing in my letter to myself. I am going to set mine up to end at the end of this year.

  • Health
  • Business
  • Love
  • Life
  • Personal projects around the home
  • Adjusting to Dutch life

Join in! I start off my letters congratulating myself for doing my best and knowing I did all I could to get to this point. Then I talk about all I plan to accomplish in the past tense. I reflect on things that worked and what I needed to change about myself or my situation to get to my desired end result. I speak about how to improve things that didn’t work and to stay the course on things that did work. I put it all out there. This one will be a bit different as I’ll be speaking about all areas of life as well.

I’ll share some of my intentions for the rest of this year in January. I hope you participate and share yours as well.

Have you ever done anything like this before? How did it work out for you? If you haven’t, do you think it would be something you could benefit from? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
