wedding wednesday – a visit to a vendor

So far I’ve been feeling really blessed and just fortunate in this quest of marching down the isle.
We purchased our rings and trying to get our photography hashed out this week.
I am also going to be trying out some recipes finally.
My mom is on vacation and I’ll be off work for about a week so I plan on making something at least every other day.
Today I am also going to stop by a rental supplier for the first time and do what I do when I go shopping for beads: get there early, touch, think, close my eyes and imagine the final product.
I’m bringing my mom with me and my camera and notepad.

I absolutely LOVE our caterers.
They are soo frigging warm and helpful. Bless them!

Another thing I cannot wait to figure out is the liquor choices.
Not because I like to drink, because I honestly don’t anymore.
We’re buying our liquor in bulk just because it’s waaay cheaper and we can!
We rented a raw loft space so we’re responsible for everything, which I don’t mind.
It pushes me to be resourceful and since I am not of the group that believes in spending $20-$50K on basically 6-8 hours of my life, I cannot bring myself to do something I am not. Besides, I think everyone would feel like they have walked into someone else’s wedding if it were cookie cutter.

I’ll report back later with how it all went!
Is there anything I should be asking them?

shop update – in April

As you may have noticed, nothing new has gone up and there has been no announcement today.
I had an unexpected emergency that prevented that from happening.

*sad face*

Instead, I will reschedule this update for later in April.
This allows for a few things:

1- even MORE items to oogle over
2- I can maneuver better around sudden outside obligations
3- you can shop today and enjoy 20% off all purchases for the next 24 hours! Just use the code RAINDATE at checkout!

So, I apologize about today, but look forward to everything that will come VERY soon!
I will do the announcement a week in advance and again the day before.

Have a happy (rainy) day today!

All hope is not lost! :)

hello monday

hope you had a great weekend!

my weekend went nothing as planned, but that was out of my control.

good news:
- I purchased new beads on Friday, which means new jewels tomorrow in the shop update! (only a few though, I still have to photograph)
- I have booked another event! I will be at the second annual Curves & Cocktails event Saturday, May 8, 2010!! More info to follow!
-I wrote the copy for our wedding invites bright and early Saturday am! hooray! Real progress!

How was your weekend?

five senses friday

hi love bugs!

I had a very full week.
and it looks like it will seriously stay this way until October, which I don’t mind one bit.
Tonight I’m supporting a friend of mine that is doing her very first burlesque show! Can’t wait to see it!
After working really hard this weekend on making new items, I plan on  my shop update on Monday morning, doing a photoshoot next week and starting to prepare my stock for Philadelphia Designer’s Market on April 17.

here is this week’s five senses friday -

hearing. the sounds of birds chirping and rain showers. my two favorite things right now. i love spring.

seeing. my beautiful friend Sarah do her first burlesque show.

tasting.trying hard to stay on my super healthy kick. lemon tea and kombucha. yum yum yum.

touching. lots and lots and lots of beads. love going stone shopping.

smelling. this super rich lip balm that the magazine/website the knot made. also my new bottle of olive oil that i moisturize with. yummers!

Don’t forget, tomorrow is Earth Hour 2010!
Turn off your lights (and all unnecessary electronics, really) for one hour this Saturday.
In the US, the time is 8:30-9:30p.
Click on the link to find out what time it is being observed in your country.
We absolutely must be more concerned with the health of our planet.
Just like we as humans need care and tending to, so does the earth.
If we pump poison and disrespect it continuously, it will stop loving us.
And we will be the ones who truly suffer.

Oh yah–and HOORAY! for health care!

How was your week?
What are your plans for the weekend?
What are your plans for the week ahead?

wedding thursday – let there be light

so i have terrible TERRIBLE

(did i say TERRIBLE?!!?)

allergies AND sinuses.

they are so bad. i’ve had them my entire life.
gone to numerous allergist.
tried all kind of crazy shots, and nasal sprays, and pills.

they work sometimes, but not long enough

certainly not well enough for me to even dream of playing myself and having flowers at my wedding

the pollen at bridal shows alone make me have to leave the premises for a while to get “fresh” air

so what’s a pretty flower loving girl to do?

go the candle route.

my mom is kinda concerned that whatever burns off from the candles might also bother me
but i guess i’ll just splurge on clean burning ones

lots of them.

we’re getting married in a loft space that’s all wood so we can’t have them naked, free standing

but putting them in glass jars will do

so i’m working on those ideas now–it’s insane that having only candles seems like an easy thought, but there are so many ways to display candles that help to make it more interesting.
if i come across some awesome inspirational photos i’ll do a follow up post

shop update – heads up

hello all you lovely lil jitterbugs!

aren’t you totally stoked for spring?

i’m super happy it finally decided to show

sunlight at 7p never felt so damn good!

i’ve decided to push the date back just a bit

the new date will be Tuesday, March 30 at 11 am sharp!

there will most likely only be necklaces in this batch

and as a “thank heavens for spring”

five senses friday

borrowed from this jewel of a lady [aka abby], five senses friday. I finally found my friday installment :)

Tasting: delicious and warm sweet potatoes with chopped ginger tempeh and bok choy (yes, homemade)

Touching: my huge crunchy curly fro

Hearing: My love just returned from RBMA last week and since I’m completely hooked on this awesome Mexican artist, Juan Son. So young and bursting with talent. It’s almost like fusing Bjork and Blonde Redhead. Awesomely weird. Go listen here.

Seeing:

Smelling: the floral euruption in my rooibos tea. yummers.

********************

hope you all have an AMAZING weekend! next week will be terribly busy for me, but fruitful.
not too long ago i was having a chat with a friend of mine that lives in seattle and she was naming all these local talents and i knew all of them and we both agreed that i was obviously born in the wrong state. it’s so wild. noone in college believed i was from brooklyn. most people thought i was southern, although i have no accent. and the older i get, the more west coast i feel. lol makes no sense.

see yall monday!

tear jerker: cross country proposal

saw this a few weeks back

and with just about everything else wedding related–

BALLED MY EYES OUT!

Completely wet face by the end.

I pray that this is NOT an indication of how I’ll be when I get married.
