Bare Essentials front book cover Bare Essentials spine

Hi love birds! Have an exceptionally amazing weekend! Are you doing anything fun or special? Yesterday was a VERY exciting day and start to our weekend in this household. Dennis’ book, Bare Essentials officially launched yesterday. We stopped by the American Book Center (the most popular bookstore in Amsterdam) and his window was all set up. We’re really happy.

If any of you lovely people reading happen to be in Amsterdam this weekend, stop by Chiellerie. Dennis will be presenting his book and having an exhibition this weekend only at the gallery. Signed limited edition prints will also be available.

I really want this sheet set from Dwell Studio.

Things will finally calm down around the house, but my website will be the next major move starting next week. I’ll explain that in detail next week as it will be closer to a reveal date, but A LOT is changing about this space. I hope everyone in NY stays safe this weekend since there’s supposed to be evacuations. If you’re in a danger zone, it’s best to just leave before you’re sorry.

Also, don’t forget about the sale going on in my shop. I really want to present Crystal with a healthy donation and every bit counts. There’s nothing better than doing good for the sake of doing good. A child with a new book bag full of supplies will thank you.

This weekend was really very full. As was most of last week. We’ve been riding around on our bicycles A LOT. I’ve also been pretty consumed with Dennis’ book release and working so much on my blog/site upgrade. My new shop goes live later today and with that comes some explanation. I will be kicking off the opening of my new site with a sale I mentioned last week where proceeds go to my beautiful friend, Crystal Senter Brown’s back pack project. I will be back later on today with all of these goodies for you. Be excited. I am.

My bike riding confidence is all the way up. I’ve been taking some seriously long trips about town with Dennis. Even if I have to ride slowly like a granny (although I’m pretty sure the grannies here ride way faster than I can), I still make it everywhere. The best feeling is knowing that this is all free. It’s free exercise (parts of my thighs have never felt anything like this before), financially freeing and already freeing us as far as time constraints. I am much more the early bird than D is, so I don’t like traveling anywhere yet with him because I’m always rushed but getting back home is so much faster.

Friday night, we went to this event called Parade (pronounced Pah-raaaahD) and it was a bit trippy. It was in the park near our house and crammed with drunk folks and something sort of like what I’d imagine a county fair is like? Can you believe I’ve never been to a county fair? We were in and out about an hour later. Saturday, our friend stopped by while I worked on cleaning our bookshelf, then we went to Noord Holland (North Holland) to go hang outside in a really chill spot and support our love, Lefto. Sunday, we were inside working all day but made sure to get outside. We went to see the film The Future, which I honestly still feel a bit blah about. It affected my mood in a strange way, but it was a really great film. Afterwards we ate Thai food at one of our fave spots, Bird.

HUGE sale for a great cause

What can you buy for $10?

Maybe a decent cheap eat, a bottle of wine, an expensive glossy mag or two?

Well what if I told you that $10 could help out a child or single mom that’s going to school?

And what if I also told you that in addition to that, you’d get to walk away with a little bit of pretty?

Isn’t that big? I mean, really huge and just full of goodness?

Since I’m all about promoting goodness, I’m teaming up with a very dear friend of mine, poet and children’s book author Crystal Senter Brown to give all you folks a really sweet deal.

Year round, Crystal raises money to buy book bags and fill them with school supplies for disadvantaged kids in the greater Boston area.

From August 22 – September 2 every single purchase made in the shop, $10 will go to her cause.
No special codes, no limits on purchase, no nothing!  Just head to the shop and let’s spread that love!

I’m talking about lots of book bags for children in need. We need your help. Spread the word in any way you can. This fall I will be collaborating on a special piece that $10 of every purchase will continuously go to her project.

Lets dig down and help people that could really use it.

And in the meantime, walk away with a bit of love. I say let’s do this!

What do you say?

More about the project from Crystal:

I started the Ella Louise Backpack project in 2008 after my Aunt Ella passed away suddenly. My heart was broken and I wanted to keep her memory alive!

Aunt Ella always purchased our school supplies every single year. She would take us down to the local K-mart and allow us to choose a new backpack and the supplies we needed.

My project helps low income children but also low income single mothers who have decided to go to college. For $10 you can sponsor a backpack FILLED with supplies! To date we have sponsored over 200 people!
